I wanted to share something with my family from a good friend from High School. Sharon Westover was a good friend of mine who was also friends with Darcy (Daw) my cheerleading partner and we have all met up in facebook now. Sharon has been helping me with a positive attitude and has had some experience in supporting a good friend with cancer. In one of her e-mails she talks about her friend Emily and I wanted to share what she had to say about it a little with you. If you notice her friend Emily is Russel M. Nelson's daughter and she makes a very good point. Please read and encourage everyone else to read it. It will only be here on our family blog but it has helped me a lot.

As a side note and explanation, Emily was the daughter of Russell M Nelson. She was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 34 years old and pregnant with her 5th child. Because of the pregnancy, and all of the growth hormones in her body, she had to begin chemo immediately and couldn't wait for the birth of the baby. Her youngest son was born 6 weeks early because her body could no longer handle the chemo and the preganancy, but he was born perfect and even had hair! She went into remission, but three years later it had metasticized to her liver. She went through more chemo, radiation, and even a bone marrow transplant, but unfortunately to no avail. What a life changing experience it was for me to help this young 37 year old mother prepare her family for her death. I sat one day in the hospital room dressed in the the mask and greens because she was in isolation just after the marrow transplant. Sitting by her side with his lap top propped open doing his ever pressing work, was her father, Elder Russell M Nelson. I watched the tenderness he gave her and the complete submission to the Lord's will. It was such a powerful moment for me because here was a man who truly had the keys to command that the cancer leave his daughters frail body, and yet through his tear stained eyes, he and she were submitting to the Lords will.
